ABC - Premiered 9-9-67

Spider-Man 1967 cartoon images Spider-Man's first television series was broadcast in the United States on Saturday mornings on ABC. The first episode was aired on Sept. 9, 1967. ABC's last Saturday morning broadcast of Spiderman was on Aug. 30, 1969. Spider-Man went on hiatus until the following March, when a third season began a six-month run, from March 22 to Sept. 6, 1970.

The classic 1960's Spider-Man series was notable for being the first animated representation of the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man, starting around five years after the character was first introduced in the comic books. The TV series ran for three years, with the series first season featuring J. Jonah Jameson and Betty Brant prominently, along with Spidey's bevy of supervillains. The latter two seasons focused less on the Daily Bugle cast and classic villains, and more towards new villains. Classic 1970's underground animator Ralph Bakshi served as producer for the later seasons.

Season one was animated by the Gantrey Lawrence group with Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. as consultants for story and art. In fact, many of the episodes in season one were pulled directly from the Spider-Man comics: "Menace of Mysterio" was the identical story from Amazing Spider-Man #13 (June 1964) as well as "Never Step on a Scorpion" from issue #29 (Oct. 1965).
